At the Lewis School we believe social activities form a very important part of your learning programme. They provide an opportunity for you to get together and talk outside the classroom and also to meet people from outside the school. This is an invaluable part of learning English and about British culture. We offer a wide range of activities and you can choose what you want to do. Here are some of the activities we organise.

Weekend excursions

We go on day trips every Saturday in July and August, and once or twice a month the rest of the year. Places we visit include London, Bath, Oxford, Salisbury and Stonehenge, the New Forest, Brighton and the south coast.

Brighton beach   The New Forest

Bath   Netley Abbey, near Southampton

The beautiful Dorset coast   London trip

Evening Activities

On Friday nights, we often arrange pub trips and barbecue parties.  Other evening activities include trips to local cinemas, theatres and restaurants, plus karaoke nights, snooker, bowling and sports.

Left to right: Friday night fun, playing pool at the pub, performances at the Christmas Party.

Daytime Activities

In the afternoons, we can organise local visits, for example to the city walls, the football stadium, and the city's museums.  We also offer boat trips, chess and games, and sports matches.  We show a video at the school every week.

There are a lot of sports activities that we can offer you.  These include football, tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, squash, bowling, baseball, table tennis, cycling, dry-slope skiing, pool, snooker and rollerblading.

Left to right:  Badminton at the sports centre, the Lewis School football team, a cycling trip to the New Forest.

These activities are suitable for all levels of experience.  Indeed, you will often have the opportunity to learn a new skill, for example windsurfing, horse riding or canoeing.  Temporary membership of private health clubs and gymnasiums can also be arranged by the school.

Occasionally, we will add a margin as a contribution to the school's costs in running an activity.

Come and join the fun!

Ian Callaway, our social activities organiser, will be pleased to discuss your individual or group requirements at any time. Contact him if you have any questions about our Social Activities Programme.
