We were delighted to welcome teachers from the Lewis School of English in Southampton for our teaching methodology conference, hosted at the E Hotel in Reggio Calabria. The event was run in collaboration with our partners Eckersley Oxford, and focused on the using of materials other than coursebooks in language teaching, an approach which is central to the teaching style of both schools.
Entitled 'A Fresh Approach: Teaching Beyond the Book', it covered topics such as the difference between coursebook-based and non-coursebook-based teaching, using Internet in the language classroom, and a large number of practical ideas for English lessons using a wide range of resources.
The speakers were Steve Hirschorn, Principal of Eckersley Oxford; Richard Hamilton, Director of Studies at the Lewis School; Tom Bradbury, author of TeachYa.com, a new, free website for teachers and students of English; Alistair Walker, Owner/Director of Lewis School of English; and Giovanni Rottura, Head of Marketing & Operations.
We were delighted to welcome 150 teachers to the eventand we would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the conference. We would also like to thank to Aktiva SRL, an organisation recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education, University & Research, for their support in organising the event.

Our first courses began on Monday this week, with classes for children, teenagers and adults. So far our teaching style is proving to be original and effective, and we are delighted with our feedback.
Two more adult courses are due to start next week.

The press conference for the launch of Lewis Reggio Calabria took place today at the Palazzo San Giorgio. Present at the event were Alistair Walker, owner and director of the Lewis School of English; Giovanni Rottura, Head of Marketing & Operations; James McKeown, director of the Lewis Reggio Calabria branch; teachers Alex Wade and Kirk Stewart; and councillor Clotilde Minasi. Also present were five students who received scholarships for the new school.
