Lewis School Diary - April 2008

April was an exciting month for Southampton, and particularly for those who like cruise ships!

Firstly, there was the chance to see the 'three queens' together - Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), Queen Mary 2 (QM2) and the new ship Queen Victoria. This was the last time they would be seen together, as the QE2 will soon retire after 40 years of service, and will become a floating hotel in Dubai. Watch the video at the BBC website >

Soon after that, Southampton's docks played host to the new largest cruise ship in the world, the Independence of the Seas. To celebrate this event, the city organised a free Carribean Festival. Watch a video of the cruise ship at the BBC website >

Southampton is famous for being the city that the Titanic sailed from in 1912, and today it still considered the 'cruise capital' of the UK.

There were lots of social activities on offer this months - trips to Oxford, London and Bath, an international food party, a theatre trip to see a musical, and of course a few trips to the pub. Many thanks to Young Ran for her photos of the pub trip.

See you soon for next month's news. If you have any photos or stories to contribute to our news pages, please contact Tom: tom@lewis-school.co.uk.
