Oh dear! This was truly a month for complaining about 'terrible English weather', as it was one of the wettest Mays ever... but at least it was perfect weather for studying English indoors!
Before the rainy period, however, it was an exciting time for the city of Southampton. The world's largest cruise ship, Freedom of the Seas, was in dock in early May, ready for a voyage to New York. The ship is 1,112 ft long (339m) which means, incredibly, that its length is greater than the height of the Eiffel Tower. Hundreds of people lined Southampton docks to watch it depart. With 'Cruise Sunday' last month as well, it has been a very special spring for ship lovers!

You can read all about the Freedom of the Seas and its luxury facilities on the BBC News reports below. Check out the photos and videos too!

It seems like a distant memory now, but we actually had some glorious days of sunshine in early May, and on one afternoon, some of our students were asked to play an important role. The Lewis School is next to Southampton Solent University, and the two organisations often cooperate. This time, some of our students volunteered to take part in a short film that was being produced by students at the university. This involved dancing in the park. We are looking forward to seeing the film when it is finished!

The highlight of the social programme this month was our barbecue at the end of May. A lot of staff and students came and we enjoyed a great evening of food, chatting, music and karaoke. Fortunatley, It stayed dry as well! For us this was a sign that the summer season had begun. There will be plenty more barbecues in the weeks to follow!

The other big party of the month was our farewell to Simon at Avondale House pub. Thank you for the great memories, Simon, and we wish you the very best for your course. We are very happy to welcome back Jade and Adam to our teaching team, and Okhee has joined our administrative staff.
All in all, we are looking forward to a great summer of sun, fun, friendship and of course, football! This month's news finished with photos of our very own World Cup tournament in the park. See you next month.
