Lewis School Diary - March 2006

Spring is finally here, and all around the city, daffodils have been in bloom. You'll notice them in the background of the photo below, taken on our patio.

Lynne, Tarek, Takako, Peggy, Mohamed from Libya and Mohamed from Sudan take a break on the patio.

Pub trips were particularly popular this month. We had a curry night at our local brewery (below) and finished the month with an excellent night at Southampton's biggest pub, The Square. Both staff and students went to celebrate the end of a hard week's work and study!

The school continues to be a truly multicultural place, as you can see from the pie chart below. We are all making friends with people of many different nationalities.

With an increase in the number of students at the school this year, we've also been welcoming new members of staff. David, Paul and Lori-Ann all have joined our teaching team this year. You can read about them on our Teachers page.

Our administration team has also grown. Piotr, who worked in our summer Junior Centre in 2004 and 2005, is back as our Junior Centre Programme Coordinator. Piotr has a Masters degree in the Management of Small and Medium Enterprises, and has been a group leader and social activites organiser in both Poland and the UK. He is also the photographer for most of the pages on our Junior Centre Photo Gallery!

Helin is our new part-time Welfare Assistant. She is from Turkey and has been living in the UK for the past four and a half years. She can help you with welfare and administration issues such as booking enquiries, enrolment and accommodation. Helin has a background in marketing and likes cooking Mediterranean food!
