Lewis School Diary - June 2006

How things can change! After one of the wettest Mays, June was an incredibly hot month, full of glorious blue skies and temperatures up to 31 degrees.

As you can imagine, social activities were very busy this month, with all kinds of trips, parties and sports, not to mention World Cup matches! The photo below comes from a barbecue party at the end of the month. Many thanks to Rebecca from Chile for the photo.

A couple of events from the June programme - the London Trip and Windsurfing & Canoeing - were so good, we decided to give them their own pages! Both activities will be repeated in July, and we will also begin an eight-week period in which we offer one full-day trip every weekend, and many more activities besides.

Our patio was location for many of this month's events as in addition to the barbecue we hosted an International Food Party, with lots of delicious food from Austria, Japan, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland and many others. We finished the evening Arabic-style with hubbly-bubbly.

More fun at the barbecue.

Mmm! Delicious!

A very hot day in London .

Windsurfing at Calshot beach.

We also held a special evening for our many new host families. Our homestay families provide such an important part of our students' experience and what is especially pleasing is that a lot of students stay in contact with their host families for many years. We would like to thank all of you for the contribution you have made.

As June marked the beginning of our busy summer period, there were a lot of goodbyes to say this month. We welcomed Sara and Faraan to our teaching team and said farewell to David. We also had to say a sad farewell to our Academic Year students, who have been with us since September. We have seen Ted, Kelly, Roberto, Geraldine, Kirsty and May make huge progress since then and together we have had a lot of fun. We would like to wish you the best of luck from the bottom of our hearts and hope to see you again one day.

One final mention must go to our summer Junior Centres that opened this month. You can see what has been happening at our Southampton Junior Centre, open from 25 June to 20 August, at our junior centre website.

To all our students, adult and junior, past and present, we wish you a fantastic summer!
