Happy New Year everyone! The new year will see a new look at the Lewis School, as we are in the process of redesigning our brochure. A big thank you to all those who volunteered to be in our photo shoot, including those below, enjoying a chat in the coffee room.

January is often the coldest month of the year, so many of our social events this month have been trips to nice, warm pubs in the city centre, such as The Square. However, some of us also wrapped up and went on outdoor excursions...
On a bright Saturday morning we took the train to Brighton for a guided tour around this hip and trendy city. We had great fun visiting the many unusual shops in the North Laines, and had a look round the city's main tourist attraction - the Royal Pavilion, a stunning palace with an Indian-style exterior and Chinese-style interior, which was the home of an eccentric 19th century prince.

Another memorable Saturday was our trip to St Mary's stadium to see Southampton play in the FA Cup 3rd round. The FA Cup is the most important competition in English football after the Premiership and is possibly the best-loved domestic competition in the world. It has been running since 1872! Southampton won it in 1976 and were runners-up in 2003, but the team has not been so successful recently.
At the beginning of the third round, 64 teams are left in the competition, and Southampton's opponents were MK Dons from Coca-Cola League 1.
It turned out to be an absolutely thrilling match, which Southampton won 4-3 thanks to a late goal.

We are very proud of our nationality mix at the Lewis School, and our statistics show that in January, we had an amazing 28 different nationalities at the school. This creates a wonderful multicultural atmosphere, the chance to learn about and meet people from other cultures, and of course even more reason to use our common tongue - English!

If anyone has photos or stories to contribute to next month's news page, speak to Tom or email him at tom@lewis-school.co.uk.
