On Easter Monday, instead of lessons, we organised a free trip to Dorset. This is a beautiful part of England with rolling hills and stunning coastline, just a short distance from Southampton. We had great weather and a great time too!
Here are some of the highlights of our trip. We visited three places.
Lulworth Cove
Our journey took us through the New Forest, and past pretty villages with thatched cottages (left). Our first destination, Lulworth Cove, is an area of amazing natural beauty. Here, some of us went on a cliff walk, while others explored the bay, which is shaped like a horseshoe and is full of interesting rock formations.
As we were about to take the coach to our next destination, a group of morris dancers (below, left) started performing next to the car park - a very nice surprise! A morris dance is a traditional English folk dance.
Corfe Castle
Our next stop was a very picturesque village on top of a hill. It has the ruins of an 11th century Norman castle, and there are many beautiful buildings all made out of the local stone. We made friends with a lovely big dog, too!
Swanage
The final destination was the charming seaside town of Swanage. We saw a steam train in the station as we walked down towards the beach. The town has a sandy beach so it was ideal for playing volleyball or football, or throwing a Frisbee. Some of us were brave enough to go paddling too. Well, either brave or crazy - the sea in April is pretty cold!
Thanks everyone for a great day, and we hope to see you on the next trip.
