The Lewis School is 30 years old! To celebrate, we held a barbecue party on our patio, which was attended by staff from our adult school and junior centre, plus junior centre group leaders. We enjoyed some delicious food, including roast lamb on a spit and rotisserie chicken, and then were treated to some excellent Flamenco music performed by Mary, who taught in our junior centre.
The Lewis School was founded by Mr. Derek Lewis in 1976. Alistair Walker has been the owner / director since 1994. The past 30 years have seen a lot of changes, and our 30th anniversary coincides with the biggest ever junior centre at the school.

It was a warm, sunny evening for our 30th anniverary party.

There is always plenty to do in and around Southampton, especially this time of year. A short ferry trip from Southampton is the town of Cowes, Isle of Wight. Every August, Cowes hosts the largest, longest-running and most prestigious international sailing regatta in
the world. Click here to see their website. In Southampton, some of our students went to see the Queen Mary 2 while she was in port, and others enjoyed a tour of the docks on the city's new open-top double decker bus.

At the school, there were some great pub trips and barbecues as part of the social programme, and we even got to see local football team Southampton (nicknamed the 'Saints') in action in the Carling Cup. It was a thoroughly entertaining game, which ended in a 5-2 win to Southampton.

We had to say a lot of goodbyes this month, as many students came here as part of their summer holidays. Our summer junior centre also ended this month. Many of our students are also preparing for a new life at colleges and universities both in Southampton and in other parts of the UK. We would like to wish you the best of luck with your applications and your future studies.
However, it is not all goodbyes! We have met many new students this month, and we are looking forward to getting to know you better. Best wishes to you all and see you again next month.
