It's the start of the
new academic year, and being a university city with over 30,000
students, Southampton really comes to life at this time.
This year is
particularly special for our neighbours Southampton Solent
University as they have now achieved university status (they were
previously known as Southampton Institute of Higher Education).
This means that Southampton now has two universities and one of
them is next door to us! We have always had a strong
relationship with both universities, and many of our students have
followed degree courses there.

The Lewis School
Academic Year Programme also began this month. This is a 37-week
course that leads to a choice of examinations such as CAE, FCE and
IELTS, and is therefore excellent preparation for anyone
considering entering a UK university.
Click here for more details. Our September-June programme has
students from Spain, Korea, Saudi Arabia, China, Taiwan, France,
Hong Kong and Thailand.
Below, you can see photos of this month's social
activities, which included a trip to Stonehenge and an
International Food Party. Everyone who came cooked a typical dish
from their country, and the result was a delicious feast!

Two Junior groups came to the school for short courses in
September, and we have made pages for both. Click to read about
our group from
Switzerland or see photos of the
Tron group from Italy. For more information about Junior
courses, including out of season groups,

We were very sorry to say goodbye to Katrina and Julia this month.
Katrina was a teacher at the Lewis School for nearly three years
and was well known for her great pronunciation teaching. Julia
worked through the busy summer as both an administration assistant
for the Adult School and a monitor for the Junior Centre. We are
pleased to be welcoming Sarah and Colin to our teaching team.
