Autumn is here, and from the Lewis School we can see the golden-brown autumn leaves in the park opposite us.
With such picturesque scenery in England this time of year, it is also an ideal time to get out into the countryside. With this in mind, our first social activity of the month was a cycling trip to the gorgeous New Forest, just a short distance from Southampton.

Give us some sunshine, please!.

London was the destination for our next trip, which saw us visit Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and all the other famous landmarks.

Here we all are outside Buckingham Palace.

Another highlight of this month's social programme was a visit to a local brewery just a few minutes' walk from the school. We had a fascinating guided tour that explained how beer is made and as part of the tour we had our very own keg of beer to enjoy! We even tasted the main ingredients of beer - hops and barley.

Learning how beer is made, and drinking it at the same time!

Cheers!

We could even serve ourselves! This is called 'pulling a pint'.

Despite all the fun, there has been plenty of hard work at the school too, particularly on our IELTS exam course. Good luck to all of you! We are very proud of our nationality mix at the Lewis School and our IELTS courses in 2005 have been attended by a record 15 different nationalities. For all courses at the school, we usually have around 40 to 50 different nationalities throughout the year.
We are also proud to announce that Jill, our Project Development Manager and teacher, has co-written an e-book for English language learners, a guide to living and studying in the UK. The e-book, entitled Connect, is available from Kestrel Books, and you can view a sample (pdf) by clicking here.
