Lewis School Diary - November 2005

Cookery classes have come to the Lewis School! We are very lucky that our Social Activities Organiser, Ian, is an expert in the kitchen who teaches cookery as well as English!

The team cooked a savoury South American pastry called empanada, a scrumptious chocolate cake and a French Gateau St. Honneur, made with two types of pastry, creme anglaise (custard) and cherries. The results were delicious!

How much goes in here?

The finished product. A delicious-looking tray of 'empanadas'.

Master chef at work!

After the success of last month's trip to the New Forest, we went back for another visit, this time for a walk rather than on our bikes. We took a ferry across the water to reach the forest, and were very fortunate to see the well-known cruise ship QE2 on the way. We then tok a bus into the forest, explored the beautiful autumnal scenery and had a great pub lunch too!

A great day out in the forest.

Overall, however, this month has been dominated by the busy preparations for the End-of-Year Party in December. We're looking forward to seeing some more great singing and acting performances from our staff and students.

Finally, we are pleased to hear again from Taka Akagi who was a student here in 1992. He became famous at the Christmas party as a backing singer with Alistair and the Scholars - the resident school band!

After returning to Japan he trained to be a pilot and now flies a 737 on domestic routes and SE Asia for ANA (All Nippon Airways). Shortly he will be promoted to fly 777 and longer haul routes. English is clearly an essential skill required for any airline pilot. Lewis School are proud to feel they contributed in some way to his career success.

If anyone remembers Taka and would like to get in touch with him , please e-mail us and we will supply contact details.
