Lewis School Diary - July 2005

July was a beautiful sunny month here in Southampton, and in between classes you could see most of our students soaking up the sun on our patio (below), or picnicking in the park.

It was a great month to get 'out and about' and explore the south of England. Our weekend trips in July included Oxford, Bath, London, Brighton and the New Forest. Among the other social activities were football, canoeing and windsurfing, a theatre trip to see the musical 'The King and I', hay-bailing at a local farm and a great barbecue party on our patio.

Clockwise from top: outside the Royal Pavilion in Brighton; Ian showing us all how to windsurf; cycling in the New Forest.

This July has also seen our biggest ever summer Junior Centre, and as a result, we have been using classrooms at Southampton Institute of Higher Education, in addition to our own rooms! The Junior Centre has its own website (click here), including a photo gallery of events and activities.

Another feature of summers at the Lewis School is that we run Teacher Methodology courses. This brings together teachers from many different countries and is always a great opportunity to develop skills and share ideas. Many thanks for your contributions.

Indeed, we would like to thank all of our students, and our recent IELTS class deserve a special mention for their excellent exam results, with a top score of 7.0 points and several more with 6.0 points or above. Well done!

Finally, we said a sad farewell to Ellie, Alan and Anne-Marie at the end of the month  We wish you the very best for the future, and you know we'll miss you!
