Cecchi Group from Italy - March 2005

This week, we welcomed the Cecchi Group, from an agricultural school near Rimini.

Richard and Jill taught the junior group and enjoyed every minute of it!  Ian took them on activities.  All of the students were lively and made the programme a great success.  They learned a lot about Britain and the we learned a lot about Italy too!

Sunday:  The group were met by Alistair at Stansted Airport and travelled to Southampton by private coach.  When we arrived, everyone was introduced to their host families.

Monday: The week began with a placement test to find everyone's level.  After that, students met their teachers and had their first class.  In the afternoon we went on a guided tour around Southampton's City Walls.  This was a chance to meet other students at the school.

Tuesday:  After class, we went on the Titanic Trail to learn about the famous ship that sailed from Southampton.  We spent the evening bowling.

Ready for action! Group leaders.

Wednesday Wednesday's activity was a visit to Winchester, capital of the former kingdom of Wessex.  We had a guided tour of the Great Hall, where we saw King Arthur's legendary Round Table. We also went on a tour of Winchester's beautiful cathedral.

The cathedral was built in Norman times.

Thursday Our afternoon excursion was to Southampton's Museum of Archaeology to learn about the early history of the city, including the Roman settlements.

Friday:   Classwork today included a team competition about London, ready for the excursion on Saturday. The students all received their certificates, and Rodolfo was given a prize of an English dictionary for being the best student in the class.  Well done everyone!

Following a free afternoon for souvenir shopping, we met back at the school for a barbecue party.  It was a great evening of food, music, singing and dancing.

A fantastic party!

Saturday:  The perfect end to the week: a day trip to London.  On an incredibly busy day, we saw Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guards, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and The London Eye.

We also visited the National Gallery and saw Van Gogh's Sunflowers, watched street entertainers in Covent Garden, and went shopping in the famous department store Harrods.  What a trip!
