Reading Centre

Reading - A modern town with a royal past!

Reading’s location could not be more advantageous. It is just 60km from the centre of London, 45km from Oxford and only 30km from Windsor Castle and Legoland, making it ideal for fun and cultural trips. Furthermore, London’s Heathrow Airport is a mere 40-minute drive away.

Reading itself is a modern, vibrant university town. However, it is also a place of historical importance. A short walk from its main shopping (The Oracle, voted one of the UK's top 10) you will find Reading's historical quarter, which contains Forbury Gardens and the ruins of Reading Abbey, which was one of the most important political and religious centres in medieval times. As you explore the city, you will discover modern developments next to red-brick Victorian buildings and ancient churches.

Recently, the town has also been enjoying the success of Reading Football Club, which joined the Premiership for the first time in 2006.

Reading is also known internationally for the Reading and Leeds Music Festival, a three-day annual event where partygoers dance away to famous bands in the Reading countryside. A more traditional event is the rowing regatta at nearby Henley-on-Thames, where visitors eat strawberries and cream on the riverbanks.

You will find Reading and the surrounding area full of surprises. With superb parks and facilities, plus its location near so many famous attractions, it is an ideal destination.
